About Sombra Artesanal Reposado Mezcal
Sombra Mezcal is crafted from espadin agaves in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, using sustainable practices. This means that each step of the process was reimagined to minimize the environmental impact. Additionally, they donate 1% of sales to environmental charities. The agave espadin that is used in Sombra Artesanal Reposado Mezcal is grown at an elevation of 8,000 feet. Ripe agaves are harvested by local farmers, roasted in underground stone pits using sustainably-harvested wood, and crushed using a traditional tahoma mill that is solar-powered. Then, the juice ferments for 8 days before being double-distilled in copper-pot stills using clean-burning natural gas. The mezcal then spends up to 6 months in Bordeaux wine casks that come from Château Léoville Poyferré in St Julien, France. Bottled at 90 proof, it’s a fruity spirit with hints of smoke, vanilla, orange zest, and berries.
