About La Gritona Reposado Tequila
La Gritona Reposado Tequila is a “whiskified” tequila distilled by Melly Barajas and small staff of local women at a small distillery in Valle De Guadalupe, Jalisco. Made from the agaves from the local Jalisco highlands, the tequila is distilled twice before put to rest in reused American whiskey barrels for 8 months.
The barrels are used for other rested tequilas prior to the resting period so that the residual oak flavors, whiskey, and the leaked color from both can be stunted for a more subtle final product.
Thus, La Gritona ends up lightly sweet and retains the true essence of the agave plant without the whiskey character from the aging overpowering the herbaceous agave notes. Crisp as a silver tequila with subtle signs of aging. Best enjoyed straight or with a nice cold Mexican lager.
